The Bingham Medal is an annual award for outstanding contributions to the field of rheology awarded at the Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology. It was instituted in 1948 by the society to commemorate Eugene C. Bingham (1878–1945). There is no restriction as to age of the recipient.

 

 

 

     
 

 

 

In commemoration of the scientific achievements of Karl Weissenberg, performed in several European countries, the European Society of Rheology (ESR) decided in 1997 to create a “Weissenberg Award” for outstanding, long-term achievements in the field of rheology. The award was bestowed biannually until 2021, and is awarded annually thereafter. 

Until 2021 the eligible were rheologists whose scientific activity was condicted mainly in Europe, from 2021 the eligible are rheologists regardless of their geographical position.

 

 

 

     
 

 

 

The APSR Jade Medal recognizes the outstanding and innovative contributions made by APSR members to rheological research. Recipients are honored for their exceptional work, which has advanced the understanding of material behavior, flow, and deformation and has left a lasting impact on the field. 

 

 

 

     
 

 

 

The APSR Boger Medal recognizes APSR members who have made outstanding achievements in applying fundamental research on rheology to industrial processes, materials, and design, and in addressing societal priorities and challenges in engineering or industrial rheology.

 

 

 

     
 

 

The Arthur B. Metzner Early Career Award shall be given, at most annually, to a young person who has distinguished him/herself in rheological research, rheological practice, or service to rheology. The year of a nominee's terminal degree cannot be earlier than the twelfth year prior to the year of the award for which he/she is a candidate. 

 

 

 

     
 

 

In commemoration of the scientific achievements of James Gardner Oldroyd, pioneer of rheology, the European Society of Rheology (ESR) decided in 2023 to introduce a “Oldroyd Early Career Award” for outstanding, early-career achievements in the field of rheology and for commitments to the rheological community. 

Oldroyd Early Career Award is bestowed by ESR every year to a young prominent rheologist who has distinguished her/himself in research, practice, or service to rheology, regardless of her or his geographical location. The nominee must have completed her/his first terminal degree no more than twelve years prior to the year of the award for which she/he is a candidate.

 

 

 

     
 

 

The APSR Opal Medal acknowledges APSR members who have made significant contributions to the field of rheology through their research. This prestigious award recognizes scientific achievement and aims to inspire further advancements from promising researchers. The recipient must be within 12 years of Full-Time Equivalent since PhD completion.
