Welcome Message

“Everything flows like this, without ceasing, day and night” stated by the Confucius (551 BC~479 BC) stood by a river is equivalent of “pantarhei” by the Heraclitus (540 BC~475 BC), as suggested in the translation of “The Analects of Confucius” (Simon Leys, 1996). Since our successful bid at Athens in the last August, Chinese Society of Rheology (CSR) has actively started various preparatory work for hosting the 20th International Congress on Rheology at Guangzhou in June 20th – 25th, 2027, in short ICR2027. The specially designed emblem of ICR2027 is engraved on Chinese traditional seal cutting with the pattern of Guangzhou map (like a flying seagull) and the ancient Chinese character of “Water” (in the oracle bone inscription) on its top, symbolizing the classical culture inheritance and a new journey of Rheology. By promoting “Discover Knowledge, Innovate Technology and Empower Society” as its core values, ICR2027 has attracted much support and enthusiasm from the Chinese Chemical Society and the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the South China University of Technology.

Since CSR become a formal member of the International Committee on Rheology (ICR) in March 1988, our community benefits greatly from international exchange and research collaboration, and has made significant contribution in many areas of rheology as shown in the attached ICR2027 Proposal. For the first time, ICR coming to China presents a tremendous opportunity for accelerating advancement of rheology by consolidating international collaboration to solve the grand challenging problems in life science and medicine, renewable energy, green manufacturing, environmental governance, climate change and beyond. ICR2027 will promote young rheologists and development of educational rheology including popular rheology, and will establish more travel grants for international students and scholars from the less developed countries. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is one of the regions with the highest degree of openness and the strongest economic vitality in China. Guangzhou has always been a central city of science education and a gathering place for Chinese Academy of Sciences, prestigious universities and institutes. ICR2027 will take place in Chimelong International Conference Center with the state-of-the-art conference facilities and excellent hotel services. The scientific program will be organized not only promoting traditional topics of rheology, but also newly emerging areas in reflection of the new industrial revolution. It will include plenary lectures, keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations, along with satellite meetings on frontier research topics and summer schools on advanced emerging courses prior ICR2027. A diverse social program is planned to expose the participants to the historical and attractions of Guangzhou.

We look forward to welcoming you to Guangzhou in 2027.
